Ignorance Is Bliss!
WARNING: FAMILY MEMBERS, THIS MAY CAUSE YOU TO BECOME UPSET, BUT I HAD TO VENT.
This evening, something happened that I luckily hadn't had to face in 12yrs. One of the biggest fears I always had was that someday someone would make fun of Erin. Well, apparently, about 4 weeks ago, Alex was at a friends house and some other kid was there and they got into a verbal arguement, this kid(well, he is actually 18) told Alex "Why don't you go home and play with your retarded sister." Alex never once said anything to me about this. The only reason I found out was because I was talking to his friends mom and she was saying that she didn't like this other kid and then she told me what happened. She heard it and laid into the kid, he ended up apoligizing, but she told him that's not the point, he shouldn't be so ignorant to say something like that. She told her husband and he said that he was lucky that he was at work and didn't hear it, because he would have knocked the kid out. I asked Alex why he didn't tell me, he said he was too mad. He told his friends mom that he is very protective of his sister. I just have a wide range of emotions about this. I'm upset, pissed, I want to smack the kid. I'm also a little worried about Alex. I wonder if this is the first time this has happened. I never want him to have this burden, but I guess I knew that he would one day have to stick up for his sister. I'm also proud of him, he didn't lay a hand on the other kid. I haven't told Dan yet. I'm kind of afraid to. He will definately over-react. The sad thing is. This kid has only seen Erin once. I guess I should just accept that their are stupid people out there, but I guess I've been sheltered from it. I figure that we all adore her and everyone else should. Live and learn. I will definately be having a heart to heart with Alex about this one.
I'm sorry, but I needed to vent.
